  • Subtitles:
    • Video masters should be provided in Pseudo-Textless form (includes main title, opening/end credits and forced narrative text but does not include burned-in subtitles for hard-to-understand or foreign-language dialogue).
    • A separate Subtitle File should be provided for content with hard-to-understand or foreign-language dialog.
  • Closed-Captioning: All content released on Digital Platforms in the U.S. and Canada requires Closed-Captioning (CC).  Films with English subtitles do not technically require CC, but it is recommended that Content Owners provide them anyway, as subtitles may not conform to CC specifications, which are follows:

CLOSED-CAPTION REQUIREMENTS

Accepted File Formats

.CAP, .SCC, .ITT, .SRT

Maximum # Characters per Line

32 characters

Maximum # Lines Per Caption

4 lines

Caption Duration Maximum

10 seconds.

Caption Duration Minimum

There is no official minimum or maximum duration but captions should appear long enough for anyone to be able to read the whole subtitle.

Other requirements

·       For content that includes Forced Narrative, two closed-captioned files should be provided:  one with Forced Narrative and one without.

·       Captions must include sound cues and effects

·       Captions must never overlap with Forced Narrative or Subtitles

For more information about Closed Captioning, please visit:  http://transition.fcc.gov/cgb/dro/caption.htlml

Closed Captioning files can be emailed to teamwhite@premieredigital.net or teamblue@premieredigital.net or uploaded to Portal via the ASSET tab.  Emails should be sent to Account Managers when CC files are uploaded to Portal.
